COVID-19: Commanding India's Food Supply

When India entered one of the world's most stringent national lockdowns in March 2020, Sudeep Singh headed the FCI coordinating team that managed the efficient distribution and transportation of food grains to 80 crore Indians throughout the crisis. Under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, the FCI dramatically expanded operations at precisely the moment supply chains, labour, and transport networks were most disrupted.

India did not witness a shortage of staple food grains during the pandemic, an outcome that would have had severe consequences for a country of India's population.
